Porto Torres is not only the main port of north-western Sardinia, but it is above all a beautiful town overlooking the sea, right in front of the Asinara Island that is part of its municipality. It houses extraordinary scenic beauties, such as the beach of Balai, and important historical and archaeological evidence such as the beautiful Aragonese Tower present at the port or the Necropolis of Su Crocifissu Mannu.
For several years, Porto Torres has decided to return to the center of the maps of tourism, leveraging not only on its treasures, but also on its precious location: very close to places of extraordinary interest in northern Sardinia such as the already mentioned Asinara that is in front, while to the west there are Stintino and Alghero, and to the east Castelsardo.
Between scenic and historical beauty, there are many experiences to be had in the Porto Torres area for all tastes. For those who love the sea, you are spoiled for choice with snorkeling, SUP and Kayak excursions that start from the town beach of Balai (a real naturalistic jewel) and continue along the coast. From the pier in Porto Torres, then, you can take part in several boat tours that mainly explore the Gulf of Asinara: tours by sailboat, wooden gozzo, dinghy, and fascinating fishing excursions aboard real fishing boats!
Asinara can also be comfortably reached by ferry, and then take part in bike tours (renting it and making up your own itinerary or accompanied by a guide) or even, from May to October, climbing aboard 4x4 off-road vehicles to take a complete tour of the island.
For the archaeological part, there are walking tours that will take you back in time: such as the guided tour to the site of Monte d'Accoddi considered the Sardinian Zigurat!
Finally, to please the palate as well, there are food and wine experiences that will introduce you to the secrets of the island's traditional cuisine. For example, at a well-kept facility on the outskirts of town, you can participate in fresh pasta and dessert workshops!
